The ITA Uniform

The I.T.A. Uniform Dress Code was designed not to attract attention to an individual, but in order to be able to tell what Grade (Gup), Degree (Dan), or other status an individual holds within the International TaeKwon-Do Association.

The ITA requires its members wear the traditional all white Dobok (uniform). Though the color of belt, and trim varies throughout the different ranks, the uniform itself is all white without the “V-Neck” style (which was NOT part of traditional Korean dress). This means the standard uniform can be purchased from almost any martial arts uniform distributor for a nominal fee. The Black Belt trim can be put on, and the different color belts are also available from most martial arts supply stores. The ITA wording on the back of the uniform jacket is optional but is highly recommended.

Grades (Gups), those who are below the rank of Black Belt, wear NO trim of any kind on their uniforms. The different belt colors distinguish the different Grades (Gups). This creates an incentive for the individual to advance while at the same time preserving humility and respect.

The ITA uniform represents cleanliness, purity, and does not draw undue attention to the individual wearing it, which only inflates the ego of such a person and does not teach humility.

With the ITA Uniform Dress Code, the degrees of Black Belt are also easily distinguished, which creates an incentive for the individual while at the same time preserving humility for members at these levels. The ITA uniform is a symbol of traditional TaeKwon-Do values and those who study the Art.

ITA Uniform Pants Requirements

First Degree Black Belts shall, in addition to the jacket trim, wear no trim on their uniform pants.

Second Degree Black Belts shall, in addition to the jacket trim, wear a 1/4 inch Black stripe down the side portion of each pant leg of the uniform.

Third Degree Black Belts shall, in addition to the jacket trim, wear (2) 1/4 inch Black stripes down the side portion of each uniform pant leg. The gap between the Black stripes shall be 1/2 inch.

4th Degree Black Belts and above shall, in addition to the jacket trim, wear a one-inch Black stripe down the side portion of each uniform pant leg.

ITA Uniform Jacket Requirements

All uniforms must be white, both top (jacket) and bottom (pants).

The ITA patch must be worn on the upper left-hand portion of the uniform jacket.

There may be only one other patch on the front of the uniform jacket. This may be a Dojang (School) patch but it may NOT be the patch of another Martial Arts organization. This “additional patch”, if it is to be worn, must appear in the upper right-hand portion of the uniform jacket.

Gups (Grades) may not have any type of trim on their uniforms.

Dans (Black Belts) shall have a one-inch black trim located on the lower portion of the uniform jacket.

All ITA Black Belt Instructors must wear a one-inch black strip which shall connect to the bottom of the black uniform jacket trim, travel along the lapel, around the collar, and follow the lapel and connect to the uniform jacket trim.

The uniform of the ITA is to worn at all times while practicing in the Dojang, when participating in martial arts demonstrations, or any other Martial Art related activities
